Day Case Procedures

The rapid increase in procedural cases carried out without an inpatient stay, has many benefits for both hospitals and their patients:

⇒Quicker recovery times
⇒Bed space and nursing time is freed up for poorlier patients
⇒Advances in technology, minimally invasive surgery and new techniques makes "day case" easier, and safer
⇒Reduced risk of Hospital Acquired Infections

Some procedures are now carried out even at ward level, in procedure rooms, effectively taking the theatre to the patient rather than the patient to the theatre. Some of the respiratory wards we work with have reduced a pathway for"consultant referral for biopsy", from 4 weeks to 24 hours, in some cases biopsies, or chest drains are carried out the same day as the initial clinic appointment. This leads to swifter diagnosis and earlier intervention - both good news for patients.

One of the main challenges around day case, especially in the ward setting, is space and equipment.

⇒Bulky theatre trolleys take up a large footprint
⇒Multiple transfers might be needed - bed/trolley/chair
⇒Ward space / storage space is at a premium
⇒Corridor storage of equipment is not ideal from a fire safety perspective

Utilising the Sertain® Seating Platform can free up space and resources, to allow the day case pathway to run smoothly; couple this seating platform with our space saving tables and bedside lockers, and the reality is, a change in service or establishment of a new day case procedure service might be easier than previously thought. Numerous cases we've been involved in, have resulted in the following:

⇒Avoiding an expensive and disruptive "bricks and mortar" building alteration
⇒Instead, an internal reconfiguration has been carried out
⇒Typically, 2 bays or "pods" can fit in one bed space, doubling capacity without an extension

Space saving folding / nesting tables and lockers

One of our day case chairs:
⇒100% layflat
⇒300mm or 400mm electric hi-lo
⇒Functions as a chair, trolley, transfer device, operating surface
⇒Quick release manual backrest
⇒Optional fully removable cushion / mattress
⇒Easily configurable for different environments, without expensive customisation
