Streamlining the Day Case Procedure with Sertain®
We've been involved in many day case projects since the inception of the Sertain® chair - in the early days, we would be referred to day case units and theatres, by word of mouth from dedicated ITU professionals, already long time users of the Sertain® concept; now, the day case recovery and procedure chair is a whole market in its own right.
The benefits of utilising a versatile seating range within the day case environment, are obvious. A typical pathway from ward or clinic, to theatre and back, can be as follows. Preparation on the ward, followed by either a walk to theatres, or transport via bed, portering chair or mobile stretcher trolley. Then anaesthetic procedures carried out, followed by transfer to theatre table; post-procedure, a transfer back to a recovery trolley, movement to the recovery area is followed by transport back to the ward and a transfer to bed, which is then followed by mobilising from bed, into a bedside chair, before going home.
That's a very general description, but involves approximately 5 transfers and up to 6 pieces of equipment involved in a relatively short window of time. The projects we have been involved in, mean taking a much leaner, efficient and time-saving approach.
Here is a recent example, from The Christie Hospital, one of Europes leading cancer centres and the largest single site cancer centre in Europe, who recently chose the Sertain® chair for their Surgical Day Case Unit.
Working closely with all stakeholders at The Christie SDCU, using the Sertain® chassis as the foundation for their day case seating, we created a comprehensive chair line up that allows the SDCU staff to use just one piece of equipment to move a patient from the ward, to the theatre; anaesthetic procedures, and the day case procedure itself, as well as recovery and transport back to the ward are all carried out on one surface with no additional transfers.
